How to Make Decorative Planters for Only $2.50 Each

My boyfriend and I bought a house roughly four times the size of the house we were renting. This meant that we had a LOT of dead space. We've found lots of great stuff at thrift stores and places like Big Lots, but there's something satisfying about making your own decor.

While watching our new Roku, I discovered Amateur Decorating Like a Pro and saw this great video featuring cute planters that were used in the kitchen. The video inspired me to head to the Dollar Tree and see what supplies I could find. For $5 I was able to buy the supplies needed to make two decorative planters. They were incredibly easy to put together and look so great in our dining room.

Here's what you'll need:

2 glass containers (found in the home/candle section)
Onion grass (found in the fake flower section)
32 ounce bag of smooth rocks (found in the home section)

1. Bend the bottom of the onion grass to create a U-shape and hold in place while pouring in half the bag of rocks.
2. Adjust the grass so that it's in the center of your container.
3. Place wherever you need a bit of decorative love in your home.

There you have it. Two beautiful planters for only $5. It doesn't get much easier or cheaper than that. Best of all, these look like pieces you would pay much more for in a home decor store.

I hope this article inspires you to see what's available at your Dollar Tree and to decorate your home on the cheap. Be sure to let me know in the comments below how you're decorating your home on a budget.
